Preheat your oven to 425Β°F (220Β°C). Rinse the turkey and pat it dry with paper towels.
Combine the softened butter, thyme, rosemary, sage, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix well until all the herbs are evenly distributed throughout the butter.
Generously rub the herb butter all over the turkey, making sure to get some under the skin as well.
Place the chopped onion, carrots, and garlic at the bottom of a roasting pan. Put the turkey in the roasting pan and put it in the oven. Roast for about 3 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165Β°F (74Β°C). Baste the turkey with the pan juices every 30 minutes.
